This summer has arrived full of markets and fleamarkets in Palma. Visiting a Mallorcan market is the ideal way to get to know the city, its inhabitants and their customs. From KOA restaurant we want to show you some of the most famous markets and flea markets in Palma. We are going to talk about three markets and three flea markets. That way, you will have a plan set for a busy morning which ends by going for lunch at your restaurant in Palma or even, spend an afternoon doing something different and end the route in your favourite restaurant.
The best markets in the capital city
The mercado del Olivar is a gastronomic space in the centre of Palma. There you can have a nice time and get a sense of the quality of each and every product on offer.
The mercado artesanal is located in the Plaza mayor of Palma. Small and welcoming, this market is every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the whole summer until 11pm. There you will find the sale of works of different artisanal craftsmen such as for example paintings, photography and imitation jewellery, amongst other things.
Next is the mercado de Santa Catalina. It can be found on the paseo marítimo of Palma. It is a welcoming market to visit and to try some wines. They have very fresh products available.
After an afternoon of fresh and delicious products, what you most will fancy is to eat a good meal. At KOA you can satisfy you palate in the best way.
Flea markets: enjoy in the open air
Every Monday and Friday the mercadillo de la Plaza Mayor pops up. If you’re passing by and you’re looking to take home a good souvenir from the island, this is your market. The artisanal workers unearth their latest trinkets and works of art.
If you don’t want to miss out on Palmas biggest flea market, you can’t miss the mercadillo “Baratillo”. It pops up on Saturdays in the centre of the city. It has almost 250 stalls with which you are guaranteed to find something for you.
On Tuesdays and Saturdays in the mornings you will find an organic market in the well-known Plaza de los patines. The flea market offers local and seasonal products that are completely organic. You can’t miss out!
